Here must have been Kino Iztok. I saw "The Godfather" I,II here. There was a nice "Sladkarnitsa" attached to it, where you can have maybe the best "boza" in Sofia. Oh boza, that lovely drink you can find nowhere in this world except Bulgaria ! I miss it so badly ! Tuan Phung (Vietnamese, former student in VMEI - TU Sofia 1977-1983)

For countless times I'd walked through this park from my hostel's room to VMEI and vice versa. Especially after passing an exam, I always chose to walk home on foot. But I loved this park most during spring, is was so beautiful with fresh green grass and flowers everywhere.
  • National Palace of Culture, Tuan Phung from Vietnam (guest) wrote 16 years ago:
Right after its building, it was originally named after Ludmila Jipkova the daughter of Bulgarian communist leader Todor Jipkov after she died from a sudden stroke as a member of Politburo of BKP. It is a really beautiful construction.

Sad to hear that. In 1970s-1980s many Vietnamese students were taking their studies here. One of the most successful Vietnamese graduates is now the Standing Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen Sinh Hung. At that time such negative phenomena were just unthinkable. In this sense, the old time was real good.

In this block there must have been a library. During summer vacations I had come and read lots of nice books here, mostly novels from renown Western and Russian writers.

Thanks, Marketolog! Here I first had summer internship session in June 1977. After that I'd still come back here many times to take seasonal jobs, mainly in the Blacksmith workshop to earn some money. Very hard job, but relatively well-paid.
